Yesterday Gf and I went to visit a friend who is spending a little time in a convalescent facility following surgery. We parked across the street in front of a home that had a front yard covered in some sort of purple flowered ice-plant shrubbery something something something...
Of course I thought it would make a great photo op for Gf's blog so I plopped her in the middle of this vast sea of purple and began taking pictures. After a few minutes an old woman was screeching from her doorway, "MISTER! MISTER!"
I looked up and apologized for trespassing, "I'm so sorry, we're leaving."
She began to run toward us with an object in her hand. It looked like a weapon.
I scurried to pick up Gf and make a dash for the safety of our car as she got closer flailing her knife and screaming, "Mister! Mister!"
Finally she caught up to us and said, "Wait, I wanted to give you a clipping."
She held up her scissors and then bent down to cut a bit of it for us. (You can see the hole it left in the pic above.) I told her that I thought she was upset about us trespassing and that I feared she was going to stab me.
She laughed, "Goodness, no. I'm not crazy yet."
We chatted for a bit and then I noticed that just over her fence in her neighbors yard was a big rose bush in full bloom. I asked her if she could cut one of the buds for me so that I could give it to my friend across the street.
She whispered in that gossipy older lady way, "I wouldn't dare." Then she leaned in closer, "Now that's the witch that'll stab you."
