This is David's 14th career ATP title and a tour-leading 3rd title of 2012.

Um: Ferrer is now 18-1 on the year.

The win will bump him back up to #5 after a week at #6.

All 3 of his Acapulco titles have come at the expense of fellow Spaniards:

In '10 Ferrero was his foe and in '11 it was Almagro - both in 3 sets.

David: I am very proud to have won in Acapulco for a third consecutive time.

David next plays Indian Wells where he lost 2nd R to Karlovic last year.

Oh wait... I was there for that match. It was a tough loss.

Armada: The doubles too was an all-Spanish affair.

Fernando Verdasco & David Marrero beat Marcel Granollers & Mark Lopez.

That's back-to-back weeks with a dubs title for Fern & David.

They might want to consider keeping this partnership going.

Santiago Giraldo Hits Shot of the Week at Acapulco

Giraldo won the match in 3 to move onto the Sf's to face top seed Ferrer.

This is Juan's 1st title since winning the US Open in '09.

He was sidelined for most of 2010 with a career-threatening wrist injury.

Delray Beach represented his 5th tournament this season.

He's rocking a nice 13-4 W/L - which includes Sf's in San Jose & Memphis.

His ranking just spiked to #89 - FOUR weeks ago he was ranked #485.

It was a matter of time - but who knew it would be this fast?

David Ferrer Wins 2nd Acapulco ATP 500 Title

This is David's 2nd consecutive title in Acapulco & 11th of his career.

This is the 2nd year he has denied a player 3 Golden Swing clay titles.

Remember, last year he stopped Juan Carlos Ferrero here as well.

David's had a great start to the season... His W/L is an impressive 14-2.

He's won 2 titles (also at Auckland) and a Sf showing at the Aussie Open.

David post-match: I hope I can continue like that this season.

David will head to Belgium this week to play #2 singles in Davis Cup.

Then he'll jet to Indian Wells where he lost in the 2nd round last year.

In fact, outside the clay Master's events last year he was pretty dismal.

Jet-lag has to play a factor at some point... Look at his '11 interary so far:

Auckland-Melbourne-Rotterdam-Acapulco-Belgium-Indian Wells-Miami.

Now, I love the way this boy moves his feet but...

That's some serious globe trottin'. Yikes.

Fernando Verdasco Takes In Some Acapulco Cliff Diving

If I were Fern I'd stay away from all forms of the word 'dive'...

Cuz if he isn't careful that's what's about to happen to his ranking.

Fernando Verdasco is on a 3 Match Losing Streak

Fern's loss to Thomaz Bellucci yesterday represented his 3rd in-a-row.

His season now has 3 first round losses in 5 tournaments.

Now normally I would excuse him with the 2 odd-ish Raonic losses...

But he didn't finish 2010 very strongly either.

In matches played since the US Open his W/L is a dismal 9-10.

With a ton of point to defend this clay season - Fern fans should worry?

Here's hoping he turns things around soon.

David Ferrer Wins Acapulco ATP 500 Title

3 David Ferrer d. 4 Juan Carlos Ferrero - 63 36 64

Ferrer wins his first title since s-Hertogenbosch in May '08.

He now has 8 ATP titles - his 1st came at Bucharest in '02.

The win should bump him up a couple spots from his current #17.

Both boys are playing singles for Spain next weekend in Davis Cup.

Deja Venus: Williams Wins Acapulco Title

1 Venus Williams d. 8 Polona Hercog - 26 62 63

Venus won 2 titles last year (Dubai & Acapulco) and has defended them both.

Venus has now won 43 WTA titles - the most of all active players.

V next plays the Billy Jean King Cup - an exhibition in NYC on March 1st.

As expected, she will skip Indian Wells and next see action in Miami.

Fernando Verdasco to Replace Gael Monfils at Acapulco ATP 500

Fern looks to gun down the opposition in the Mexican resort town.

Owing to injury Gael Monfils has pulled out of Acapulco next week. Fernando Verdasco has stepped in to fill the void.

Currently ranked #11 Fernando will assume the role of the top seed in a field that includes: Fernando Gonzalez, David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Sam Querrey, John Isner and Nicolas Almagro - who is the two-time defender.
