Both ladies won their first matches returning from long injury layoffs.
Venus was solid from the jump but Kim needed to shake some rust.
Venus did not play here last year - Kim lost in the Qf's.
Both are former champions: Venus in '98, '99 & '01 - Kim in '05 & '10.
This is Venus' 1st tourny since the US Open & Kim's since the Aussie Open.
Welcome back ladies, you were both missed greatly.
