The two giants of our sport participated in a kids event in Abu Dhabi today.

Damn, lucky kids.

We may just start this New Year off right Saturday - with a Rafa/Roger final.

If so, lucky us.

Who are these people that get these great seats and then spend the entire match just waiting for every effing opportunity to wave at the camera behind the guy who's serving? I mean, all match long lady? You're not cute - you're just annoying. Go home.

Maria Sharapova Mobbed for Autographs in Indian Wells

I shot this photo after Maria had a practice session on Sunday getting crushed for autographs. I actually watched her practice twice and she was rather grumpy both times. And not once did she smile while signing afterward either. She seemed completely annoyed. I suppose getting mobbed isn't all that pleasant but you'd think she would be used to it by now. SMILE Maria, these kids love you.

She lost later in the day to Zheng Jie - 36 62 36.

And then I ran into some Belgian Fans in Indian Wells...

But why no love for Justine?

Roger Federer's absence is felt in Dubai...

That banner might actually be a couple years old now.

Once a staple in Dubai (his second home even) Roger has been absent from the tournament in Dubai for a few years now. After winning in '03, '04, '05, '07 and runner-up in '06 - '08 saw him lose 1st round to Andy Murray and illness has forced him to pull out this year and last.

Roger loves this tournament and should be back but maybe roll up that banner and save it for '11 - just in case?
