In a press conference held at Queen's Club in London yesterday Andy Murray (the defending champion) said that he thinks the the World Cup, which is being played during Wimbledon, may actually help take some of the media glare off of him and it might be the thing he needs to win it this year.
Murray said (via The Guardian), "The World Cup is huge and the amount of media coverage it gets is massive so it kinds of splits up that side of things a little bit, which will probably make it a little bit easier. In the build-up, the demands on my time might get a little bit less. There might not be people following me around as much, some of the paparazzi and the people that come to your door to speak to you about your personal life – some of them might be at the World Cup. Obviously, that makes things a bit nicer for me."
Fat chance. Those crazy British tabloids will find space for you Andy. Oh but they will.
Even with all the attention Andy gets during Wimbledon he has progressed a round further in the draw every year: 3rd round in '05, 4th round in '06, he didn't play in '07, quarterfinal in '08 and a semifinal loss to Andy Roddick last year. Looks like he'll be runner-up next month with surely a win in '11.
