The Swiss Miss-es tennis. Ah, we miss her too.
5-time Grand Slam winner and former #1 Martina Hingis has committed to a full slate of World Team Tennis this summer. It'll be decided February 11th which city she will represent.
Last year Kim Clijsters used WTT as the springboard for her return to tennis. It turned out to be a fruitful venture as she picked up a second US Open title in just her third tournament back on tour.
Don't expect a similar move from Hingis. She told the AP today, "If it was played in the backyard then I'd probably think about it twice."
She went on to say, "What I miss is probably... the winning moments - when you hold up the trophy and you know you are the best in the world and you end up winning Grand Slams. That is probably the moment an athlete is most happy."
World Team Tennis is a wonderful place for Hingis. It's a fun coed event that doesn't require too much travel or much time out of the year.
Anyone else smell a wildcard into New Haven just for fun?
